Some document names are changing — here's the scoop 👀

We’re updating the terminology and names of certain documents — including your Account Statement and Invoice — to ensure legal compliance and clarity across documentation provided by the foundations Benevity works with.

The change is driven by our legal and language guidance, which focuses on accurately reflecting the structure of the Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) provided by the foundations:

Clarifying Benevity's role
Donor Advised Funds are charitable giving tools provided and sponsored by the charitable foundations. Benevity supports, coordinates and facilitates administration and compliance through the Benevity platform.

Avoiding financial terminology
Terms such as "Account" and "Account Statement", as common banking terms, should be avoided as they imply a banking relationship that does not exist. Benevity does not own, operate or control the DAFs or the funds within them, and we never act as a financial intermediary.

Future donations are pledges, not legal obligations to pay
Future donations to be made through the Benevity platform are legally considered a pledge, not a legal obligation to pay. Therefore, the term “Invoice” is not aligned with the intention of the document.

Here's what's changing:

Current Terminology New Terminology
Account Statement Contribution Summary
Cumulative Account Balance Cumulative Contributions
Global DAF Account Top Up Invoice Global DAF Donation Request
Corporate DAF Account Top Up Invoice Corporate DAF Donation Request
Invoice # (On the Top Up Invoice)  Donation Request - Invoice #
Invoice Date (On the Top Up Invoice) Donation Request - Invoice Date
Donation Report - Invoice # Donation Report #
